Dolby Atmos defines how modern home cinema sounds — and since Dolby's brand refresh in late 2019 / early 2020, the format carries the streamlined visual identity now seen across AV receivers, disc menus, soundbars and end credits. Introduced in 2012, the object-based 3D audio format moved beyond the rigid 5.1/7.1 channel layout — sounds move freely through the room, the height layer above the listener included. The format hasn't changed since; what was redesigned was the mark on the wall.
