ELAC was founded in Kiel, Germany, in 1926 — making it one of the oldest continuously operating audio companies in the country. The origins were in maritime ultrasonic and sonar technology, which took the brand deep into physical acoustics early — and that engineering DNA is still visible in today's speaker development. With the Andrew Jones-designed lines (Adante, Carina, Vela, Solano), ELAC has made the last decade one of the more interesting speaker-engineering stories in Europe.
An ELAC sign belongs in a room where German engineering and British speaker design come together. Owners of the Adante, the Vela or Carina lines, or a small Debut configuration as a second system. Listeners who care more about driver geometry and cabinet bracing than brand mythology.
