THX was born at Lucasfilm in 1983 — initiated by Tomlinson Holman in response to a bitter experience: that the same film carefully mastered in the studio sounded surprisingly different in the cinema. The result was a certification programme that didn't define a sonic colouration but a set of technical minimum requirements — from the studio master through to the speaker reproduction in the auditorium. For home cinema, THX evolved over the years into its own standard with tiers like THX Select, THX Ultra and ultimately THX Dominus.
A THX Certified sign belongs in a room where the home cinema was deliberately built to a technical certification standard. Owners of a THX Select-, THX Ultra- or THX Dominus-certified loudspeaker configuration. Home-cinema builders who know what each THX tier specifically demands in headroom, distortion and dispersion behaviour. Cinephiles who understand that "THX-certified" isn't a marketing stamp but a measurable requirement.
The natural spot: above the door of your cinema room, in the entrance area, or beside the screen. If you value THX, you most likely pair it with other cinema standards — take a look at our Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and IMAX signs as well.
