Marantz was founded in 1953 in New York by Saul Marantz — a record collector and electronics tinkerer who found the commercial amplifiers of the day musically lacking. The result was an amplifier line that didn't aim for "neutral" but for right: warm, organic, audibly musical. Six decades later the Marantz sound is still a tonality that hi-fi listeners either love or deliberately avoid — both compliments.
A Marantz sign belongs in a room where the music comes before the spec sheet. Owners of a Cinema AVR, a Model 30 / 40n combination, or an SA-10 SACD player. Listeners who recognise their amplifier by the round porthole display before they see the logo. People for whom "warm" sound is a deliberate choice, not a technical complaint.
The natural spot: in the listening room at the hi-fi rack, next to the turntable, or above the system. If you run Marantz, you most likely chose your speakers for musicality too — take a look at our Bowers & Wilkins, Focal and AudioQuest signs as well.
