DTS:X is the object-based 3D audio counter to Dolby Atmos — and since the format's logo refresh around 2020 under Xperi, the mark you see today on AV receivers, UHD disc menus and TVs reflects DTS's contemporary identity. Where Atmos commits to the height layer above the listener, DTS:X follows a more flexible approach: the format adapts to whatever configuration is in place, without forcing a specific speaker topology. Run an Atmos setup and you generally have DTS:X too — but the format plays its own card where Atmos prescribes its logic.
A DTS:X sign belongs in a room where immersive audio isn't defined only through the Dolby universe. Owners of 7.1.4 or 9.2.6 configurations who deliberately use DTS:X discs for the format. Home-cinema builders who don't overlook the DTS:X track in the disc menu — they actively choose it.
The natural spot: on the cinema-room wall, next to the AV receiver, or right beside the screen.
