Sony's VPL line is what happens when a company that builds image processors, mastering monitors and SXRD wafers in-house also decides to build the projector around them. Since the VPL-VW1000ES in 2011, Sony has carried native 4K SXRD panels through the home-cinema range — today the laser-light XW-series (XW5000, XW6000, XW7000, XW8000, XW9000) ships with Reality Creation, Dynamic HDR Enhancer and a calibration chain that traces straight back to studio mastering. For a serious projection room, Sony's VPL is one of the very few names that need no qualifier.
A Sony Projection sign belongs in a room built around the image. Owners of a VW290ES, VW890ES, or the current XW-series laser projectors. Custom installers who specify Sony VPL where calibration consistency over years matters. Cinephiles who chose SXRD because they wanted native contrast without the wheel — and meant it.
The natural spot: on the front wall of the cinema near the screen, in the projector closet, or in the equipment rack feeding the projector.
